Lanzarote's population increased by 5,000 people last year

Almost one in four inhabitants is foreign, mainly from Colombia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Morocco and Germany

The population of Lanzarote reached 163,230 inhabitants in 2024, almost 5,000 more people than the previous year, according to a report by the Cabildo which indicates that 23.9% of its residents are of foreign nationality, mainly from Colombia, the United Kingdom, Italy, Morocco and Germany.

According to this annual study by the Cabildo, called 'Lanzarote in figures 2024', the number of companies registered increased by 1.2%, reaching 5,089, while affiliations to Social Security also increased by 5.1% compared to the previous year and registered unemployment fell by 8.3%, standing at 7,267 unemployed people in 2024.

In addition, 3.4 million tourists arrived in Lanzarote last year, with a special predominance of the British market, according to the aforementioned publication by the Lanzarote Cabildo Data Center, which provides information on the main socio-economic and environmental indicators of Lanzarote and whose results were released this Friday by the island corporation in a statement.

The average occupancy rate was 85.2% and the income of the hotel sector exceeded 972 million euros, 11% more than in 2023, the note indicates, which also specifies that the collection of holiday homes was almost 244 million, 34% more than the previous year.

According to the report, the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport recorded record figures, with 8.7 million passengers in 2024, thus consolidating the total recovery of air traffic, and maritime freight traffic increased by 3%.

In the social section, the stabilization of the school population and the increase in gender violence crimes compared to the previous year stand out.

As for the purchase price of housing, the figure of 2,463 euros per square meter was reached, compared to 2,201 euros the previous year.

For their part, the environmental indicators reflect a slight increase in water consumption and waste production in 2024, and slight decreases in the consumption of energy products and electricity production.
