After hitting rock bottom last month with only 4,027 tons sold, cement sales increased by 12% last February on the island, although if compared to the same month in previous years, it is the lowest figure since 2018, when only 3,721 tons were recorded.

In total, 4,511 tons of cement were sold in February, 484 more than the previous month and 22% less than in February 2021, according to a report by the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC) collected by the Lanzarote Data Center.

Despite the increase, it is the second worst month since April 2020, at the beginning of the state of alarm, when 4,123 tons were sold, only behind last January. In year-on-year terms, in 2020 this figure was offset by the increase in subsequent months, reaching a total annual sales of 75,284 tons that year, figures that decreased slightly in 2021 and that, for the moment, show a downward trend in 2022.

In the first two months of the year, Lanzarote is the only island in the province of Las Palmas where sales of this conglomerate decreased compared to 2021, with 8,539 tons between January and February, 22% less, while in Fuerteventura 6,847 were sold between January and February 2022, 5% more than the previous year, and in Gran Canaria 37,028, 35% more.

As for the archipelago as a whole, in February there was an increase in wholesale cement sales, reaching 48,084 tons, 12.85% more than in January, when 42,610 tons were recorded. However, unlike Lanzarote, the Canary Islands did manage to improve its year-on-year data with a 7% increase in the first two months of the year.
