Cement sales last April amounted to 3,951 tons, which represents a decrease of 27.5% compared to the previous month and 22.17% compared to twelve months ago.
The data from March, the month in which 5,451 tons of cement were sold on the island, seemed to indicate a change in trend, since more than 5,000 tons per month had not been exceeded since April of last year, however the data now indicate that the new normal could be settling in that record.
Since the maximum of March 2021, when 8,590 tons were recorded, a decreasing trend began that does not seem to be reversed.
Cement sales, an important indicator of the dynamism of the construction sector on the island, experienced large falls since the records soared in the first year of the pandemic.
The monthly growth rate was 72% in May 2020. During the pandemic period, the absence of tourists led to greater construction and renovation activity.
Although the largest drop in the archipelago has been in Lanzarote, cement sales have decreased in April on all the islands.
In the whole of the Canary Islands, 48,426 tons were sold in April, when in March there had been more than 55,000 last month.
