The Canary Executive has launched a third call to support cinema with an allocation of one million euros. This is a new line to finance feature films, documentaries or animation made under a co-production regime with a minority Canarian participation, thus addressing one of the sector's most recent demands.

This call adds to two others that are in force, aimed at new film and television productions (production, development and shorts) proposed by professionals from the islands, with which the investment of the autonomous Government for the Canarian audiovisual sector this year amounts to 2.8 million, 55% more than last year. .

The other two calls mentioned, open until September 25, amount to 520,000 euros for short films and development projects and 1,280,000 euros for the production of feature films and series; The one that the regional Government has just published for one million euros is for minority co-productions and will be open until October 2.

A new call to include larger projects

The General Director of Cultural Innovation and Creative Industries, Cristóbal de la Rosa, explains that "this new line is very similar to the Production line, but in this one the Canarian partner is a minority. The aim is for Canarian production companies to be able to enter as partners in larger projects and benefit from the experience of partners from outside the archipelago."

Applications will be submitted exclusively through the telematics management application. The granting of subsidies is multiannual and is part of the Strategy of Cultural and Creative Audiovisual Industries that is implemented through actions of different departments of the autonomous Government.

Only production companies registered in the Canary Islands Audiovisual Companies Registry may access these subsidies. AIEs (Economic Interest Groups) that include a production company that has a certificate in the same can also be submitted.

The economic soundness of the project is valued, including the co-production of which it is a minority partner, pre-sales or other contributions, as well as its potential, artistic quality, and the project's contribution to the growth of the Canarian audiovisual sector.

This assessment will be carried out by different external committees composed of professionals of recognized prestige and representing the different film forms that are convened. Likewise, this committee will reflect in its composition the plurality of the audiovisual as an artistic and industrial phenomenon.
