What to see in Lanzarote? 8 essential places

One thing is to travel its 845.94 km2 and another is to stop and enjoy its magical sensations. Visiting it always leaves us satisfied, although with a great desire to return. Lanzarote is a different, attractive and multifaceted island, where you can easily choose to experience different scenarios: black sand beaches, local gastronomy, culture and attractions. It receives more than a million visitors a year, but you never feel overwhelmed by crowds. There is always a special corner away from the urban environment and the hustle and bustle. A good accommodation option are the villas in Lanzarote from Tripkay.

A volcanic island full of contrasts, with an extraordinary climate, known for its eternal spring and which maintains a pleasant temperature and a dry climate for most of the year, given its proximity to Africa and the absence of mountains.

The first thing that stands out in Lanzarote are its volcanic landscapes, which are so great for photography and cinema. But that's not all. Beaches with crystal clear waters, natural volcanic sculptures, architecture and art await you. A peaceful place, perfect for resting from stress and spending a classic and different vacation at the same time. You can visit it on an organized trip, with guides, routes or packages, but getting to know it on your own and at your own pace is very feasible and comfortable. Lanzarote offers all the services and amenities so that you can travel and get to know it without missing a detail.

What to see in Lanzarote?

First of all, it is inevitable to interpret the island under the work and influence of César Manrique. Who was a painter, sculptor, artist and activist born in Lanzarote, left his indelible mark on his land. You can choose between the seven tourist centers created by him, to learn about the essence of Lanzarote's culture. The combination of architecture, spaces and natural expressions in his works are a delight for the soul.

You can adjust the itinerary to your preferences by renting a car and embarking on the adventure of discovering the island for yourself. These are the places we recommend.

Timanfaya National Park

Let's start by getting to know the most visited natural attraction, located in the Timanfaya National Park in the southwest of the island. There you will find an interpretation center of the Mountains of Fire, with its magical volcanoes and steam geysers that will make you feel the heat of the earth you walk on. Don't miss the opportunity to taste the dishes of the El Diablo restaurant, prepared with the heat emanating from the center of the earth. And of course, you can't miss the classic dromedary ride.

La Geria

As a contrast to the rough nature of the national park and marvel at human ingenuity, you can visit the vineyards of La Geria very close by. A demonstration of how ancestral knowledge has been maintained over time, to sustain agricultural activity in the area. It is very interesting to know the origin of the strain that grows there and how the entire system that protects it was devised. And, of course, taste a refreshing glass of white wine.

Lanzarote Beaches

To the south we find the paradisiacal beaches of the south of the island, with white sand and crystal clear waters, surrounded by the aridity of the Natural Park of Los Ajaches. Beautiful landscapes and many kilometers of coastline to choose from and enjoy, such as the beaches of Playa Mujeres, Punta del Papagayo, Playa Blanca or Playa de la Cera.   A few minutes from Playa Blanca are the natural pools of Los Charcones, a beautiful system of seawater reservoirs that will offer you beautiful underwater scenes.

To the north, Famara beach is one of the longest and the favorite for surfers and kite surfers. Large waves and constant winds delight surfers and kitesurfers. The length and breadth of the beach make it a perfect place to walk by the sea.

Other places to visit

To the northeast is Jameos del Agua, an oasis in a volcanic tube with the César Manrique seal where it is difficult to distinguish and separate the natural from the man-made. It really is a harmonious, playful and relaxing experience.

Another mandatory stop is the Mirador del Rio, another of the tourist centers created by Manrique. Located to the northeast, about 476 meters high, we find one of the most famous panoramic views of Lanzarote. From there you can enjoy a drink or a snack in the bar, while you get excited when you see the Chinijo archipelago surrounded by the sea.

In Arrecife, its capital, you will find different alternatives for commerce and leisure, enjoying the local gastronomy. To get around the city there are different options, from public transport to bike and car rentals.

The important thing is that you really want to have a good time and get the most out of a magical island that will surprise you.
