The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrates that its motion defended in this Tuesday's plenary session has been approved, allowing the reactivation of the necessary actions to recover the legal costs allegedly unduly charged by the lawyer Ignacio Calatayud during the INALSA bankruptcy proceedings.

The initiative stems from a recent resolution of the Mercantile Court number 1, which has condemned Calatayud to pay the costs of the process in which he claimed 82,600 euros for his participation in one of the incidents of the bankruptcy proceedings. The court determined that said claim was unfounded, since his hiring included both the main cause and the incidents derived from it.

The spokesperson for the Socialist Group, Ariagona González, has denounced the passivity of the current president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, as well as his inaction at the head of the Water Consortium and the public company itself: "It is unacceptable that, despite the existence of a final judgment dismissing the claim for fees, not a finger has been moved to recover costs that could exceed one and a half million euros."

González recalls that the PSOE "has been constant in its demand for transparency and justice in this matter", and trusts that this motion will serve to "close a stage of opacity and lack of institutional responsibility": "We are talking about public money, and the Cabildo has the obligation to act forcefully. We cannot continue to allow the defense of the general interest to be ignored."

The Socialist Group hopes that the appropriate measures will be implemented without further delay and that the necessary mechanisms are guaranteed so that events like these do not happen again.
