The Minato restaurant in Puerto Calero hosted the first "Minato de Makizushi" workshop on March 18. 14 people interested in learning about this typical variety of Japanese cuisine attended this workshop, where they were able to prepare and taste it.

During the course, the Sushi Man, Alan Huston, began with a brief history of sushi and its ingredients, the different styles, varieties and recipes, followed by the preparation of Makizushi (Sake Maki - Karai Sake Maki - Tekka Maki and Karai Maguro Maki). The restaurant management provided attendees with the necessary utensils as well as the raw material (tuna and salmon, nori seaweed and minori rice).

The restaurant owners, Simón Pazo and Juan Serra, have a long history in gastronomy, with more than 20 years of experience and 10 years working in Japanese cuisine. Alan Huston, the Sushi Man, specializes in the preparation of sushi and sashimi, which he has dedicated himself to for the last 7 years in Barcelona, Girona and now in Lanzarote.

Minato is not just a Sushi Bar, on its menu we have delicious salads, a variety of typical Japanese noodle dishes with meat or fish with exquisite sauces (Tako Ramen, Yaki Udon, Kai-sen Ramen, Toriniko Ramen). Octopus fritters (Takoyaki), vegetable-filled dumplings (Gyozas), vegetable, squid or prawn tempura. Tuna loin on celery bulb puree with soy and honey sauce (Maguro Tataki) and of course the varieties of sushi and sashimi. For more information about the menu you can visit www.sushibarminatolanzarote.com.

Once the theoretical and practical part of the course was finished, a tasting menu paired with a selection from its wine list of local and national wines was served. Among them Bermejo and Oroya. The latter, a white wine from Castilla selected by Japanese winemakers to accompany sushi.

The event was a didactic, gastronomic and social experience that will be repeated on April 1 and on subsequent dates to perfect and progress in this technique. Gradually other variants of traditional Japanese cuisine, as exquisite as it is healthy, will be introduced and applied. Minato Sushi Bar is open from Tuesday to Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. They have catering and take-away service. Reservations on 928 944 190.
