Faithful to our roots and with the pride of being a 100% Lanzarote company, at SPAR Lanzarote we are preparing once again to celebrate Canary Islands Day as we like it most: betting on our own, on Canary Islands products, and on keeping our history and traditions alive.
On the occasion of this significant celebration, we have launched a special campaign of offers and promotions, available until June 4, in which each purchase over 20€ can be directly and randomly rewarded at the checkout line with thousands of free products. A gift to the loyal customer, who trusts every day in a local company committed to quality, savings and the territory.
In addition, this year we proudly and humorously show off our new cotton bags with Canary Islands phrases, such as the funny "Échale mojo a la vida" (Add mojo to life) or "Mija tengan fundamento" (Girl, be reasonable), which not only add a nice touch, but also promote the use of reusable bags with their own identity.
Because it is a pride to be Canarian, support local businesses and products. Your choice matters
Children's Workshops
But if there is one thing that characterizes our campaigns, it is the commitment to transmitting the Canary Islands culture to new generations. From May 26 to 29, we will hold our traditional free children's workshops at Eurospar Altavista, where boys and girls will not only have fun, but will also learn about the origin and value of our customs:
- On Monday, May 26, with the help of Universo Mágico, they will create chácaras (Canarian percussion instrument) with recycled materials, discovering how this traditional instrument has been part of the island's folklore.
- On Tuesday the 27th, they will make their own mini sombrera (Canarian hat), learning about its history and symbolism.
- On Wednesday the 28th, we move on to the kitchen with pastry chef Adelia Ramírez, with recipes as ours as the sweet potato truchas (pastries).
- And on Thursday the 29th, we could not miss the authentic pella de gofio (gofio dough), where the little ones will discover what our roots taste like and where they come from.
From SPAR Lanzarote we continue betting on zero kilometer products, local employment, and the defense of what makes us unique as a people. This campaign is a tribute to our land and our people, and one more way to reaffirm that in Lanzarote, what is ours is worth a lot.
Our history
Marcial González Díaz was the founder of Supermercados Marcial, his ease of argument and conversation led him to begin his sales route, first by donkey, then by cart and later in the 70s, in a van.

His journey was based on the "vuelta abajo" (down round), passing through Uga, Las Breñas and Playa Blanca, where he took his sweet potatoes, pumpkins, watermelons and everything that the fertile lands of Masdache and San Bartolomé gave, returning home with fresh fish. When it was time for the "vuelta arriba" (up round), he left loaded with the same products and returned with potatoes from the north, thus completing a trade circuit that connected the flavors of the island.
At the end of the 50s, he made the leap from street vending to having his first point of sale. It is in the warehouse on Canalejas street, where the trajectory begins and Supermercados Marcial is born. The whole family ran the family business, even living and sleeping in the back room, returning to Masdache only on Saturdays to help with the work in the fields.
The legacy built with work and a deep commitment to the island, its people and its roots has paid off and today the company has 25 supermarkets spread across the island, giving direct employment to more than 600 employees under its commercial brand SPAR Lanzarote.
