The President of the Canary Islands Government, Paulino Rivero, accompanied by the President of the Tenerife Island Council, Ricardo Melchior, received the audio guide of the Canary Islands in German from the Lanzarote company Canary Islands Car, S.L. (CICAR), promoter of the project. The delivery took place within the framework of the ITB Berlin 2013, and was carried out on the occasion of the visit that Rivero and Melchior made to the stand of the car rental company, leader in its sector in the Canary Islands Archipelago. The Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Canary Islands Government, Ricardo Fernández de la Puente, was also present.
The delivery was made by Mamerto Cabrera, representing CICAR. The German version of the audio guide of the Canary Islands has had the collaboration of the Honorary Consulate of Germany in Lanzarote.
With this initiative, CICAR makes an old aspiration that was conceived more than two years ago a reality. CICAR thus tries to contribute to spreading the cultural and natural values of the Canary Islands among German-speaking users who are inclined to use their rental cars to travel and get to know them.
Likewise, it tries to favor a better interpretation of the Islands by incorporating the varied leisure offer, both public and private. On the other hand, the audio guide promotes the consumption of local products, and offers a series of useful tips for users of rental cars to contribute to the conservation of each of the islands.
The audio guide of the Canary Islands is an innovative service that the company CICAR offers to the users of its rental cars in the Canary Islands Archipelago, at no cost to them.
When renting a CICAR vehicle anywhere in the Canary Islands, the user receives an audio CD, in mp3 format, which describes the places of interest on the island where they are located. The customer can choose between three languages: Spanish, English and German. The choice of these three languages is due to the fact that tourism from Spanish, English and German speakers accounted for the largest tourist influx registered in the Canary Islands Archipelago in 2012. It is not ruled out that, in the near future, the audio guide will be published in other languages, depending on demand.
As the user travels through the island territory, the user can choose the track they want to listen to, in accordance with the landscape or the place in front of them. When doing so, a voice, whose Spanish narration is by the writer Fernando G. Delgado, describes the most interesting aspects of the place that is being traveled over a subtle musical background. The voice in German is by Stephan Kaiser. The texts are by Mario Alberto Perdomo, while the music has been selected or composed by Ildefonso Aguilar, who is also the author of the design and photographs of the CD.
As a complementary support to the audio guide, CICAR offers the rental car user a map of the island with the signaling of the points of interest, as well as a user manual for it.
The project has been undertaken in coordination with the Island Tourist Boards. On the other hand, the audio guides have been made available to the taxi fleets of each island, at no cost, so that they can use it when performing their services.
