The organizers of the Canarias tiene un límite mobilizations have stated this Monday in a statement that citizens have once again attended "massively" the mobilizations of last October 20 to ask for a change in the tourism model, after the historic attendance to the call of April 20.

Just six months after the historic protests of April 20, "citizens have once again massively attended the demonstrations to fight for a change in the economic model towards one that respects the islands and the people. We want to thank all the groups and people who have participated in the demonstrations of last October 20, they have had an exemplary vindictive attitude".

An important part of Canarian society has once again managed to generate repercussions not only in the Canary Islands, but also internationally, with coverage in media from dozens of countries. Thus, the convening groups have pointed out that "this mobilization, carried out in some islands strategically in the most emblematic tourist areas of the archipelago, has allowed to make visible the seriousness of the problem in the same spaces that suffer the consequences of mass tourism and the excessive exploitation of our natural resources".

In this line, they have added that the "statements in a nervous and angry tone such as those of Jessica de León, Fernando Clavijo and the mayor of Mogán (Gran Canaria), Onalia Bueno, make clear the success that has been to point to the tourism model by going to the epicenter of this model". For the organizers, their statements "confirm that these protests have bothered the lobby and put back on the table the future of the tourism model. That nervousness also translates into a clear manipulation of certain media financed by the tourism lobby, which sees its profits in danger".

The change of tourism model will come from the hand of the constant struggle, so we warn you: this has only just begun. The tireless work of the groups and committed people has been and will continue to be fundamental to achieve this goal.

The continuous attacks on our nature, gentrification, precariousness and overexploitation of the territory are problems that we will not stop denouncing and the more serious the situation, the more people will be defending the islands. The strength of the organized people is our greatest tool.

It is not just protest, the groups and people who go out en masse to the streets have clear proposals that the Government of the Canary Islands, councils and municipalities have ignored.

The groups of Canarias tiene un límite have added that "we know that this is only the beginning of a struggle that will be prolonged until true and profound changes are achieved. The demonstrations of October 20, like those of April 20, have not only put on the table the necessary debate, but have created an organization and coordination between groups from all the islands that will continue to function to denounce common problems or support specific groups and islands with their particular problems. This organization and good harmony should be one of the biggest concerns of the institutions. We are organized and we are not going to stop".
