The lava flow heading towards the west coast of La Palma has already destroyed around a hundred homes in the municipality of El Paso, according to the first calculations handled by the Cabildo and the City Council itself.
The authorities have evacuated some 5,000 people from the municipalities of El Paso, Los Llanos de Aridane and Tazacorte and, on scientific recommendation, an exclusion radius of 2 kilometers has been set around the emission centers to minimize the impact of pyroclasts and exposure to gases.
With the current information, two fissures of hundreds of meters in length have been observed, aligned in a north-south direction and separated from each other by about 200 meters, with several points of emission of sources of pyroclasts and lava flows. The surface temperature of the emitted lava reaches 1075ºC, the formation of a main cone is also confirmed, the column of volcanic ash reaches a height of 1,500 meters and the emitted gases reach 3,000 meters.
In addition, there is a decrease in seismicity although some low-magnitude earthquakes continue to be recorded and the occurrence of felt earthquakes is not yet ruled out, and deformations continue to be recorded, mainly in the area closest to the eruption, reaching an accumulated deformation of 19 centimeters.
The Cabildo reports on road closures
