The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has received the first batch of 273,600 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 adapted to the new variants of Omicron. With them, the vaccination process of the second booster dose will be launched, which will begin on September 26, the day on which the campaign begins in all autonomous communities, by agreement of the Interterritorial Council of the National Health System.
The injection of the second booster dose will follow the national strategy, starting with the most vulnerable population, which are those over 80 years of age and residents in nursing homes. Progressively, other age groups will be included, as defined in the vaccine presentation of the national health system.
It is not necessary to make any prior appointment, as the health centers will make the relevant appointments. In the case of people residing in nursing homes, nursing teams will travel there to administer them.
Experts indicate that the new multivalent vaccines, used as a reminder dose, help to strengthen immunity, in addition to protection against all clinical manifestations, so the Ministry points out that it is necessary for the population included in the most vulnerable groups to be vaccinated.
