The General Directorate of Public Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has admitted in a report that Tenerife's passage from level 3 to level 2 of epidemiological alert on May 2 was hasty, since it had 60 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 inhabitants and "the relevant 14 days of stabilization were not respected", but it was done after eight.

On the other hand, the decrease in Gran Canaria was carried out after 14 days at medium risk and with a Cumulative Incidence of 37 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, as stated in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) this Friday in an announcement that includes the new measures to control the pandemic.

In addition, it points out that the highest incidence of cases occurs in the population under 45 years of age, although there are cases in all age groups, the result of "probably" the mobility of the population and the dispersion of the territory.

The report indicates that admission to hospital beds is beginning to grow and although it indicates that vaccination is in the regional and national average, the transmission of the virus in a "community, uncontrolled and abrupt and rapid increase", together with the "relaxation" of the measures, makes it not have the desired effectiveness.

Therefore, and apart from carrying out informative campaigns aimed especially at young people and reinforcing surveillance, Public Health recommends continuing to use the mask outdoors, although this Saturday the state measure that allows it not to be used when the safety distance is guaranteed comes into force.
