41.3% of the population in the Canary Islands has an advanced level of digital skills, above Spain (38.9%) and the EU (27.3%). This data is part of the most relevant indicators on digitization in the Canary Islands, which is analyzed by the Canary Agency for Research, Innovation and Information Society (ACIISI) from the Canary Observatory of Telecommunications and the Information Society (OCTSI).
The Digital Skills Indicator reflects the population's ability to carry out different tasks related to Information and Communication Technologies in five areas of competence: information, communication, problem solving, computer skills (content processing) and security. These data correspond to 2023 and refer to the digital skills of low, basic or advanced level, of people between 16 and 74 years of age in this Canary Autonomous Community.
67.5% of the Canarian population has at least basic digital skills, ahead of the national average (66.2%) and the European Union (55.5%). And 25.8% have a low level of digital skills in the Canary Islands.
The highest data is in communication: in 2023, 90.5% of the population in the Canary Islands registers an advanced level of communication skills, above the national data (90.1% Spain) and the EU (81.1% in Europe).
Last year, 81.5% of the population in the Canary Islands had an advanced level of skills in information, also above the national average (79%) and Europe (68.5%).
65.9% of the population in the Canary Islands has an advanced level of problem-solving skills, while the national data is 66.2%, and the European data is 56.6%.
In 2023, 64.7% of the population in the Canary Islands has an advanced level of security skills, 62.9% in Spain and 45.2% in the EU.
Regarding the indicator of skills in content processing, 52.3% of the national population has an advanced level, and 46.2% of the European population shares the same level. This indicator in the Canary Islands 2023 is 52.1%.
