The President of the Government of the Canary Islands and again Secretary General of CC, Fernando Clavijo, said this Sunday he is convinced that the new challenges set for the islands to solve the demographic problem, the migratory phenomenon and the lack of housing, among others, will only be achieved from unity.

Clavijo made these statements at the closing of the VIII CC Congress held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in which he revalidated his position with the support of 96.83% of the votes of the 329 delegates who participated.

The leader of CC has claimed the "Canarian way" of doing politics, the unity of the Canary Islands - which has been the slogan of the congress - and dialogue, a way with which he hopes that the strike in the hospitality sector can be called off for Easter.

Unity has been what the militancy and the three reports approved in the congress have transmitted, and it will be carried out in all actions, since it is "the common denominator of the party", but from respect for the singularity of each of the islands, as it is the only way to build "a better Canary Islands", Clavijo stressed.

The demographic challenge and a tax system that takes into account the singularities of each island will be pillars in the political agenda, he said.

"Our responsibility is to carry out the roadmap that we have set in this Congress for the future of the Canary Islands; a future that is built with work and that is the mandate we set ourselves. Our challenge is to make things happen, in the Canarian way and with determination," he said.

Within the objectives of the political formation, he highlighted the demographic challenge and the housing emergency as fundamental pillars of the nationalist agenda, as well as taxation as a tool to fix the population to the territory in the midlands and in the Green Islands.

"To have a strong Canary Islands we must have strong islands. All decisions that are made must respect the singularity of each of them," he insisted.

In his speech, Fernando Clavijo made an express call for dialogue between employers and unions to promote a negotiation that allows raising wages in the tourism sector.

"We have to address the redistribution of wealth to guarantee a fair society and get out of the tail end of wages and, therefore, we think it is great news that employers have opened up to negotiate the improvement of collective agreements and now all that remains is for the unions to sit down," he said.

And, in addition, he invited both parties to apply "the Canarian way of facing differences" and to start negotiations as soon as possible.

The Secretary General has also advocated for recovering the unity of nationalism.

"Only if we are strong in Madrid can we get this land to move forward and we need more deputies like Cristina Valido in Congress and more senators like Pedro San Ginés in the Senate, because that is where the decisions that affect the Canary Islands are made," Clavijo defended, who acknowledged that it is a "difficult objective, but our history is full of impossibilities that, with work and without giving up, we have turned into possibilities".

Regarding the "new world disorder" and its possible impact on the Canary Islands, he called for prudence, "because the consequences of making hasty decisions will be paid by our children".

In this VIII congress David Toledo has been re-elected as Secretary of Organization and 60% of the members of the National Political Council have been appointed.

In addition, a Secretariat of Political Strategy has been created, which will be headed by José Miguel Barragán; a Conflict Resolution Committee, composed of Guadalupe González Taño, Germán Brito, María Ángeles García, Jesús Machín and Jorge Schreaber, and the figure of the affiliate coordinator, who will be Víctor Díaz.

The VIII National Congress of the Canarian Coalition has brought together 329 delegates from the eight islands and from the organizations of Venezuela, Argentina and Uruguay, who have debated and approved the three reports presented.

Thus, the one on Canarian national identity and the place of the Canary Islands in the State and Europe, has achieved 98.7% of the delegates; the Statutes of a political formation of Canarian obedience, has been endorsed with 99.63% of the votes, and the Promotion of sustainability from the social, economic and environmental perspective, has been supported by 99.63% of the votes.
