The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has started this Thursday the process to administer a third dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 to certain patients with a weakened immune system, as agreed within the Interterritorial Council of Health, based on the scientific and technical criteria previously approved by the Public Health Council and the Vaccine Panel.

The people who are candidates for this additional dose, which is estimated to be between 10,000 and 12,000 throughout the archipelago, are already being summoned by the Canarian Health Service since this morning.

The booster dose will be applied to people who are receiving or have received immunosuppressive treatment for solid organ transplantation, regardless of the time elapsed, as well as people on the waiting list for solid organ transplantation and patients receiving hematopoietic progenitor transplantation. In addition, it will be administered to those who are in treatment with anti-CD20 biological drugs.

Regarding the general state of vaccination in the Canary Islands, as of this Thursday, 3,043,631 doses have been administered in the islands, with 83.66 percent of the target population (those over 12 years of age) having received one dose and 80.24 percent having received both doses.
