A minor has been hospitalized in critical condition since Monday in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria after attempting to take his own life. The police are investigating it as a possible case of bullying, a police spokesperson confirmed to Efe.
The Canary Islands 112 emergency service already released details last night about the medical assistance provided to the boy, which took place around 6:20 PM on Diego Betancor Suárez Street, in the La Feria neighborhood of the capital.
The Superior Police Headquarters confirmed this Tuesday that the 13-year-old boy attempted suicide at a time when he was alone at home with his sister, a nine-year-old girl, according to initial information gathered by the agents.
The father had momentarily gone down to the building's entrance to run an errand when he received an alert call from the mother, who was also outside but had seen her daughter crying through a security camera in the house.
Agents from the Scientific Police, the Homicide group, and the Family and Women's Care Unit arrived at the apartment. The latter service has taken charge of the case, as there are indications that the boy was a victim of some type of bullying.
The latest information the police have received about him indicates that he is in critical condition, with serious internal injuries, at the Materno Infantil Hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
