A resident of Méjico street in Arrecife has denounced the "uncivil" behavior of some citizens who accumulate dozens of garbage bags, bottles and other waste around the containers. In this line, he has assured in statements to La Voz that since the containers were removed from the surrounding streets, about seven were installed at the entrance of this road in Arrecife.
The problem has several edges. In the first place, the poor condition of some of the containers prevents them from opening completely and since the pedals of three of them do not work, part of the population does not use them. Added to this is that the containers fill up easily and are not emptied until the garbage already reaches the sidewalks and the street, with dozens of boxes, plastic bottles and other items around.
In addition, according to this reader, other citizens decide to throw garbage bags in the vicinity of the containers, instead of using them to prevent their spread through the streets. "You go down the street and the stench throws you back, you can't walk on the sidewalk without that smell reaching you," he told this newsroom.
"Urbaser and the Arrecife City Council keep throwing the ball to each other but nobody does anything to change it," this citizen has indicated. Thus, he has indicated that when the garbage trucks pass, they take the inside of the containers, but not the garbage from the surroundings. Despite the signs indicating the prohibition of throwing garbage in the street, the bags continue to accumulate.
