A group of neighbors from Tahíche unanimously denounces that, after holding an extraordinary meeting, "a series of serious faults in the management of the current board of directors of the Neighborhood Association of the town" were revealed.
The president of the association, concerned about "the opaque and irregular drift that the entity was taking", convened the neighbors to an extraordinary meeting in order to inform them of "repetitive facts of a mild and serious nature that had been taking place without their consent, even compromising their legal integrity as a representative."
However, they say, "in an unprecedented act, four members of the board of directors —including the secretary, an employee of the current mayor of La Villa de Teguise, Olivia Duque— barricaded themselves in the society's headquarters and refused to hand over the minutes book, thus attempting to hinder the legitimate holding of the meeting and conceal essential documentation for the transparency of the entity."
In this sense, they continue declaring that "despite this resistance, the meeting could be carried out with the participation of a considerable number of members, who, after listening to the facts presented, expressed almost unanimously the will to dissolve the current board of directors and to constitute a new one that truly represents the interests of the people."
The neighbors emphasize that what happened "is not an isolated event, but the result of a management marked by opacity, lack of accountability, and decisions made outside the legal and statutory framework."
From the Neighborhood Association of Tahíche they want to "alert citizens and relevant organizations about the urgent need to ensure that neighborhood associations fulfill their democratic and participatory function without being subject to personal or political interests."
