Emotional Tribute in Lanzarote: 150 surfers bid farewell to Jorge Acosta in Caleta Caballo

The surfing community of Lanzarote has paid tribute to Jorge Acosta this Sunday, September 13, in Caleta Caballo.

As will be remembered, the 53-year-old native of Lanzarote died by drowning last May while surfing in the atoll of Gaafu Dhaalu, in the south of the Maldives islands.

Lorenzo Martín explained to La Voz that about 150 surfers from the area, Famara, Caleta Caballo, and San Juan, have come together to remember their friend. It is a traditional Hawaiian ceremony in which a circle is made in the sea, a bouquet of flowers is thrown in the center, and a few words are spoken to say goodbye.

According to the Efe Agency, the Canary Islander was on board a tourist safari boat and had traveled to practice surfing in an area near the island of Vaadhoo, a popular destination in the archipelago for fans of this sport.
