A reader has contacted La Voz to publicly denounce the discharge of sewage into the sea on the coast of Puerto del Carmen.

According to the citizen, this spill took place last Friday, May 1st next to Playa Grande, in the area of the Tourist Office. The woman decided to approach due to the "very strong and unpleasant smell that we got up on the sidewalk".

In the images, one can observe how brown-colored water is being poured into the sea from a grate that passes under the sidewalk and empties onto the coast.

The situation is that the municipality obtained the Blue Flag this month on four beaches: Playa Blanca (Grande), Matagorda, Pocillos and Pila de la Barrilla (Playa Chica). It is a distinction that recognizes the quality of the waters, safety, accessibility, provision of services and environmental management of the beaches

"It is a disgrace that they boast of a Blue Flag and these things continue to happen... we cannot continue looking the other way seeing that no measures are being taken regarding these spills that affect the entire island," states the reader.
