The runner Yoel de Paz, from Wild Trail Project, won the gold in the Famara Total by European Sports Destination, after achieving a spectacular race pace with 5:44 per kilometer, which earned him to reach the finish line with a record of 32:08, record time for a vertical mode in which he has made history.
On the afternoon of this Thursday, the seventh edition of this race started. From very early on, the town of Caleta de Famara was acquiring a special atmosphere with the collection of bib numbers by the participants, to whom, little by little, fans, passers-by, curious people and numerous spectators would be added who wanted to be present at that spectacular starting point prepared for what will be three days of sports celebration.
Nearly 100 athletes gathered for the original night race that marked the beginning of the VII Famara Total. From 9:00 p.m., the starts began for the runners, starting from the La Caleta de Famara pier to the Mirador de Las Nieves, in a 5.6-kilometer race with an elevation gain of almost 600 meters that ran along the always impressive Famara beach, the Poceta ravine, the Caleteros path and, finally, the Mirador de la Ermita de Las Nieves.
In the individual female category, Yvonne Radermacher reached the first step of the podium with a time of 48:12, followed by María José Rivera (53:19), from the Atlantes Trail club; and Laidy Vanesa Betancor (1:04:21), from Azarug Tinajo.
The extraordinary race signed by Yoel de Paz with a new record in the Vertical made Sergio Machín's more than enviable time (36:33) only worth a hard-earned silver medal in the men's category; Carlos Jesús Hernández (37:26) was also very close, both teammates in the C.D. Hilera, who shared the podium with the palmero.
As for the pairs category, Marlon Camacho and Víctor M. González, from Todo Por un Sueño, climbed to the top with a sum of time between the two of 1:22:44.13.
