After the confirmation of the coaching staff of the first team of Magec Tías for the next season, which will play again in Women's League 2, it is the turn of the renewals, headed by the team captain, Yaiza García.

The player, who was trained in the youth ranks of the club that she now captains, soon began her career with teams such as Gran Canaria, even playing in European competitions; Isla de Tenerife in Women's League 2; CB Uni Caja Canarias in Women's League 2, Ensino Lugo in Women's League 2 or CB Al Qazeres in Women's League 1, before returning to Magec in 2015.

"I hope that we continue to maintain at least the category, and that every year the people from home fight to make a place for themselves on the court.”

This campaign has the incentive to be able to play with her sister Natalia, a junior who returned to the island after playing in Galicia, so “it has something special for me, because I will be able to fulfill one of my dreams, and that is to share the court with her. We are 15 years apart, so it was difficult to imagine that the situation could arise.”

The center, who will turn 32 next November, says that last season left her “with a bittersweet taste because we were in a good dynamic and although we were in a rather complicated position, we had the hope that we were going to get it out sportingly, but well, this will be a new opportunity to demonstrate that this club from the day it started in this category came to stay.” Another positive aspect, at least for the fans, is that she will not stop playing yet, “although my idea, as everyone knows from last season, was to leave it,” she clarifies.

Last season Yaiza García played 19 games, with an average of more than 30 minutes per game and 14 points per game, adding 109 rebounds, 22 assists, 5 blocks and 241 valuation points, and all this despite not being one hundred percent due to injuries. “I want to think that I'm fine now,” she says regarding her physical problems. “During the quarantine I trained at home morning and afternoon, then I slowed down a bit but I haven't stopped doing things, although I have to admit that I haven't touched a ball since March, since the pavilion in Tías has not been opened.”
