Football is very capricious, but it shouldn't be surprising because it always has been. If Unión Sur Yaiza left somewhat downcast on Saturday after drawing (1-1) with the visit of San Mateo, the results achieved during Sunday morning have made the point gained worthwhile.
It all started on Saturday at the Municipal Stadium of Yaiza, where Panadería Pulido San Mateo drew one-all in extremis, in the last breath of the match, against the greens in a match corresponding to matchday 23 of the Third Division RFEF.
That those from Montaña La Cinta have grown as a team is evident. After winning against Ibarra, they received one of the top teams in the category, San Mateo, and showed their face, demonstrating, once again, the equality that is occurring in most of the matches, whether they are teams from the top or bottom of the league table.
Intense match lived in the Municipal of La Cinta de Yaiza between the local team, Unión Sur Yaiza and Panadería Pulido de San Mateo, both teams aware of the importance of the three points at stake, for the locals to remain outside the relegation places and for the visitors to remain in the places of honor in the category.
Everything started very gray for the locals. Five minutes into the game, an unfortunate play left Yaiza without Javi Morales, affected in the right knee, he left the field. He was replaced by Grimón after almost five minutes with the game stopped.
But the match was not going to change too much. The greens controlling the game and San Mateo waiting for their opportunity. In the 16th minute, a header from Ubay after a corner kick from Emi Trovento was cleared by the veguera defense on the goal line. Shortly after, a shot from the edge of the box by Álex Yunes went over the crossbar without disturbing the San Mateo goalkeeper, Álex Ravelo, in the starting lineup after problems for the goalkeeper who was going to start, Álex Guanche, in the warm-up.
The great opportunity for the locals came in the 21st minute with a penalty for handball. Captain Yunes wasted it by shooting over the San Mateo goal. In the 23rd minute, the first yellow card of the match came for Álex of Panadería Pulido after hitting Joni with his elbow when backing away. The lack of intent saved him from the red card. Curiously, in the 24th minute the referee cautioned Ubay who is still wondering why.
A free kick from Trovento hit the right post but the play was eliminated by the referee for having previously whistled an indirect free kick. The local control continued while the oranges of Israel Quintana tried especially from set pieces.
In the 38th minute the greens continued to try with a shot from Ubay that was lost very close to the left post of San Mateo. With football in capricious mode and after the penalty missed by Yaiza, when everything pointed to halftime, the referee signaled a maximum penalty for the visitors for handball in the 48th minute of the first half. An immense Álex Medina threw himself to his right to prevent the first goal of San Mateo.
There was no time for more and with the goalless draw the break was reached.
The second half began with a yellow card for Juanma Arrocha after catching Emi Trovento on the wing. Of those cards more orange than anything else. The first changes of San Mateo arrived. First David Ramírez entered for Gabri. A few minutes later he took Emilio and Raúl off the field to give Fabio and Cristian their opportunity.
The 100 by 68 of the Municipal of Yaiza saw how the fight in the center of the field intensified, highlighting, once again, the role of Pope with the ball at his feet. Each day more secure and effective. In the 14th minute the defense of San Mateo complicated their lives and caused a balloon from Álex Yunes that went a few centimeters over the goal of the oranges. The Yaiza bench moved to give way to Roy and Javi Melián in exchange for Ubay and Aridany. Quintana did the same and Javi Martínez retired giving way to Pedro Manzi.
In the 31st minute of the second half came the moment of Yaiza. A wonderful cross from the right by Acorán was headed by captain Álex Yunes who crossed in front of the San Mateo goalkeeper and put the first goal in the pocket of the greens.
A few minutes later Emi Trovento wasted a free kick from the edge of the area after the visiting goalkeeper caught the ball outside the area. It cost the goalkeeper a yellow card. The stands were asking for the red card. Nico González entered for the local scorer, Álex Yunes, in the 38th minute. The minutes passed with little to highlight but in the last minute of the second half, a painful lack of concentration from the green defense conceded to the vegueros, in an isolated play, a header from Manzi that was out of reach of Álex Medina. There could not have been a more painful goal than that. Draw with the last
breath of the match.
Division of points that did not satisfy either of the two teams. San Mateo, immersed in the fight for the promotion playoff, at least managed to equalize in the last minute. Yaiza, who was already close to victory, is left with only one point in that fight in the lower part of the table. Although the point tasted little at the end of Saturday, the results on Sunday morning with the defeat of Ibarra and Gran Tarajal were going to make the Saturday point a good point.
Unión Sur Yaiza is after this match in 13th place with 23 points, outside the relegation places occupied by Estrella CF (13 points), Gran Tarajal (18 points) and Ibarra (20 points). Next Saturday, March 11, Yaiza travels to face Tamaraceite, a team from the middle of the table, at Juan Guedes, at 5:00 p.m. Before the start of the match, the president and captain of the southern club, Bernardo Povedano and Álex Yunes respectively, presented a plaque as a tribute to the daughter of Miguel Díaz Reyes, an important name in the history of the club, in an act framed in the 40th anniversary of the team.
