The athlete from Playa Blanca, Wellington Castro Reynoso, senior - master category, returned in full glory to Lanzarote from the "Kenpo World Championship" held from April 27 to 29, in the Portuguese town of Caldas Da Rainha. A place where he achieved three titles and a bronze that portray his "individual performance with honors", thus helping the Spanish National Team to win for the fourth consecutive year the "world title of traditional kenpo" in this world event that brought together more than 60 nations in Portugal, according to the Yaiza City Council.
Wellington Castro managed to "become world champion" by winning the final against Romania in the full kenpo modality, a full contact combat that allows projections and sweeps and finishing on the ground, pointing out that "it is the toughest combat of the entire competition and the Eastern countries are very strong and of a high level", informs the Consistory.
Castro also brought "the championship in simi kenpo", a point combat where light contact of both fists and legs is allowed; and also the "title in synchronized katas", the sequence of movements that chains a series of attack and defense techniques, being part of the team of three Spanish kenpokas who defeated Indonesia in the grand final, they emphasize. And in submission, a combat modality in which striking is not allowed, the athlete from Playa Blanca won "the bronze medal" after falling in the semifinals.
Óscar Noda, publicly praises this spectacular balance highlighting "Wellington's world figure and his commitment to the youth academy of our municipality of Yaiza."
