CD Unión Sur Yaiza experienced a historic day in their visit to Barranco Seco to face the first team of Unión Deportiva Las Palmas. Despite the difference of three categories between the yellows and the southerners, the team led by Maxi Barrera showed courage and took to the field without any complexes.
From the start of the match, the Second Federation team presented an attack formed by three players and pressured the opponent in their ball exit. However, the first goal of the team trained by Luis Carrión came after seven minutes, when Campaña sent a chipped ball that Sandro finished coming from behind. Shortly after, the Gran Canaria striker was again the protagonist when he received a ball and faced the young goalkeeper Gregorio, beating him to make it 2-0.
The Lanzarote team responded quickly with a shot from Joel Domínguez from the edge of the area, but the Croatian goalkeeper Horkas deflected it to a corner with an excellent intervention. Las Palmas could have extended the lead with an occasion in which Januzaj left McBurnie in a clear position, but Gregorio responded well down low.
After thirty-five minutes, the third goal for the yellow team came with a shot from the Scottish McBurnie that crashed into the post, and Bassinga took advantage of the rebound to beat Gregorio. The last chance of the first half was for Unión Sur Yaiza, with a steal by Moha who tested the rival goalkeeper with a cross shot that went wide of the goal line. With the score at 3-0, the players went to the locker room.
In the second half, Unión Sur Yaiza made several changes and modified their approach to the match. Maxi Barrera's team had much more of the ball and played more in the visitors' half, although the goals did not come. The clearest chance was for Emiliano Trovento with a free kick from the left corner of the area that went just wide.
As the minutes passed and the changes in both teams, the dynamism on the field decreased. In the last stages of the second half, Manu Fuster scored the fourth goal for Unión Deportiva Las Palmas, thus closing the score.
Despite the defeat, optimism reigns within Unión Sur Yaiza. The Lanzarote team will face a new week of training, the third, preparing for the following matches which will be on Thursday against UD Llanos de Aridane in La Palma and on Saturday against Unión Puerto in Fuerteventura.
