UD Lanzarote is a team that fights the matches until the final whistle, never losing faith and competitiveness. A circumstance that was demonstrated on Sunday morning against Unión Puerto, tying in overtime a match that had become very uphill. Javi Melián scored, in the final minutes of the match, the two goals that gave the Rojillos the tie and the Majoreros let escape a match that had put them in a good position in the 88th minute with the third goal from Roberto.
The match began with alternating dominance, with neither team being able to take control of the game. UD Lanzarote did not speculate in defensive tasks and did not allow the ball to be in their domains of the field. For its part, Unión Puerto was not able to assert its status as local, with most of the game taking place in the center of the field. The Rojillos had the first dangerous action in the 7th minute. Borja Vera executed a corner kick and Miguel Gómez's shot at the far post was stopped by Julio.
UD Lanzarote took the lead in the 11th minute of the first half. The joy for the visitors barely lasted two minutes, the time it took Unión Puerto to level the score. Alex Conguiú was in charge of executing a free kick practically from the center of the field, central defender Seven won the game against the UD Lanzarote defenders and headed the ball to beat Agoney.
The forces were balanced on the field, with the game developing in the wide area. It was Unión Puerto who tried to have more of the ball in their possession and UD Lanzarote every time they recovered the ball came out at speed to take advantage of the speed of Rosmen and Quintero.
The first half ended with a scare for UD Lanzarote and again in a set-piece action. Alex Conguiu was in charge of executing a free kick from the left side, Adargoma finished from the penalty spot and the ball ended up crashing into the crossbar of the goal. The second half began with two good chances for UD Lanzarote. In the 2nd minute of the restart, Borja Vera finished a loose ball from the edge of the area, the ball hit a defender and went close to the base of the post. Unión Puerto's response came in the form of a goal. UD Lanzarote made a mistake in the ball exit, with Juanmi stealing the ball from Ayoze at the edge of the area, raising his head and putting the ball out of Agoney's reach. The UD Lanzarote goalkeeper managed to touch the strong shot of the Majorero player, being useless the stretch to avoid the second goal of Unión Puerto.
UD Lanzarote had to face the last thirty minutes of the match with one less player on the field. Quintero, after being fouled on the edge of the area, confronted a defender and the referee punished him with the second yellow card of the match. The Rojillos had no choice but to take risks in search of the equalizing goal.
On the counterattack, Unión Puerto could have sealed the match in the 68th minute. Roberto entered the area on the right side, the young Unión Puerto player did not dare to shoot, giving way to Jonás and sending the ball wide of the three posts. The shot of the left back was invalidated for offside at the time of the pass of his teammate Roberto.
As the minutes passed, UD Lanzarote was pouring over the area of Unión Puerto and assuming many risks in the defensive zone. In the 89th minute, Unión Puerto mounted a quick counterattack after a corner kick from the visitors, with Cristian Conguiú entering the area and giving way to Roberto who only had to push it into the back of the net.
UD Lanzarote did not lower their arms in the final minutes of the match and as a result of the work came the second goal of the Rojillos. After a throw-in, goalkeeper Julio misjudged his exit, leaving the ball dead inside the area and Javi Melián taking advantage of the situation to send the ball into the net.
And when four minutes had passed over the regulation time, came the goal that gave the tie to UD Lanzarote. The play was born in a new throw-in, Rosmen combed the ball at the near post, Javi Betancort did the same and the last shot would be from Javi Melián to beat Julio again. A goal celebrated in style by the players of UD Lanzarote, aware of its importance.
A draw with the taste of victory for UD Lanzarote and a feeling of defeat for Unión Puerto. The Rojillos remain seven points away from the promotion play-off places and adding their twelfth draw of the season. Next week they receive the visit of Estrella CF, being obliged to add the three points if they want to continue maintaining the options of fighting for the promotion play-off.
