The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, as well as the Minister of Sports, Alfredo Mendoza, have congratulated this Saturday on behalf of the Institution and on their own to the Canarian wrestling clubs of Tinajo and Tao, after proclaiming themselves on Friday night champions in the senior and youth categories, respectively, in the final fights of the XXXVII Cabildo de Lanzarote League.
The last evening of the competition was decided in the Andrés Curbelo “Pollo de Tao” arena, before an outstanding presence of public who did not want to miss the outcome of the fights live.
As mentioned, the trophy of the 37th edition of the Cabildo de Lanzarote League in the senior category went to the showcases of the Tinajo Wrestling Club, which won in the final against the San Bartolomé Wrestling Club by 12-10.
In the youth category, the final league fight was starred by the Unión Sur Yaiza Wrestling Club and the Tao Wrestling Club, with the latter achieving victory by leaving the score in a favorable 9-12.
Thanks to the clubs
President María Dolores Corujo wanted to highlight the role of the six participating clubs in this edition, “because all of them collaborate in the conservation and current good health of the vernacular sport in Lanzarote and La Graciosa, despite the complicated times experienced during the acute phase of the pandemic”.
In addition, Corujo stated that for the Island Council “it is a source of pride” to promote the competition, where “the affection and nobility” of the large family of Canarian wrestling is observed. The president has also extended her gratitude to the work carried out by the Canarian Wrestling Federation of Lanzarote.
On the other hand, the island councilor of Sports, Alfredo Mendoza, joins this congratulation, encouraging the trainers - many of them with a proven dedication to this sport - to continue offering their work “as the main guarantor of the future of the island leagues”.
It should be remembered that the Cabildo de Lanzarote League is also played in the Cadet category, for 21 seasons; and in the Children's category, for three.
