Last Tuesday, August 29, about twenty boats departed in the VII Arrecife-Agadir Regatta. This event takes place until September 3 and unites the island with the African continent in a crossing.

This year a record of participants has been reached, with boats from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Madeira and Lanzarote.

The event, organized by the Agadir Yacht Club and the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, celebrated its first edition in August 1986, as a twinning promoted by the canning businessmen of Lanzarote and Agadir.

On Monday night, the skippers' meeting was held at the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, in which the latest instructions and weather reports were given to the 115 athletes participating in the event. The boats are divided into two groups, 16 will do so in the ORC class and 6 in ORC Promo.

At the end of the event, the president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero Ortega, wished the crews a good crossing and a pleasant stay in Agadir.

For the 222 nautical mile (411 kilometer) crossing that connects the ports of Arrecife and Agadir, there will be three classifications: Open in real time for ORC Promo, ORC 3-4 and ORC 1-2, to which prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of them. Plus the prize to the overall winner.

Traditionally, the Arrecife - Agadir Regatta, "has an extra attraction for the participants, the hospitality offered by the Yacht Club D'Agadir and the varied program they offer of excursions and other activities, as well as a spectacular Saturday night with local attractions and the awards ceremony", according to the Real Club Náutico.
