The Castle of San José in Arrecife was the place chosen for the presentation of the Car of the Year 2012 award given by the Canary Islands Automotive Federation (FECANAUTO), an organization that has grouped Asate and Avivo, associations of the sector belonging to the two Canary Islands provinces, since 2009.
The event was attended by representatives of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the Arrecife City Council and the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce, who presided over the event together with the president of Fecanauto, José Manuel Martín Toledo, from Lanzarote.
The new Opel Astra GTC was chosen as the winner among 15 candidate vehicles. The election was made through more than 3,000 surveys and around 500 SMS, with the winner achieving 22.7% of the votes, obtaining a wide majority over its rivals.
The president of Fecanauto, José Manuel Martín, was in charge of presenting the award, which was collected, on behalf of Opel, by Pilar Guridi, director of communication for Opel Spain, who was accompanied by the CEO of Orvecame, the official Opel dealer for all of the Canary Islands, Mamerto Cabrera Cabrera.
Pilar Guridi highlighted the excellent work of the Cabrera Medina Group: "Orvecame has done an extraordinary job that has translated not only into the unanimous recognition of all social agents in the Canary Islands, but also into a notable growth in its sales that has placed Opel in number two in the sales ranking in the islands. In addition, Orvecame was once again the best dealer in Spain in 2011, an example of a company that has not stopped growing in times of crisis."
On the night of the Castle of San José, another local company within the automotive sector shone with its own light, celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of its foundation in 2012. Automóviles Lanzarote was founded by Tito Mesa in January 1982. Today, Automóviles Lanzarote has central facilities of more than 6,000 m2 on the San Bartolomé road, where its services are centralized, in addition to the main exhibition on Méjico street in Arrecife.
