The 'Lanzarote Quemao Class' presents its eighth edition

In this new edition, the event will develop initiatives throughout the year to promote the island's culture, sustainability, sports, and gastronomy.

The Lanzarote Quemao Class presented its eighth edition this Tuesday. This sporting event brings with it a great variety of changes for the event, which will exceed the usual two days of competition to become an event that encompasses tourism, culture, sustainability and gastronomy throughout the year.

Through this initiative, different educational, social and cultural dynamizations will be developed that will project the values ​​for which the event stands: the promotion of tourism, the promotion of culture, sports and sustainability.
 
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, stated during the presentation that "thanks to the Lanzarote Quemao Class and so many other sister experiences, the island is advancing with guarantees in its model of differentiation of the tourist offer, which makes it a more attractive space connected with the culture and traditions of its people, whom it accompanies in their progress”. “The Cabildo of Lanzarote hopes that the Lanzarote Quemao Class will continue to be an emblem for our island, filling it with energy, sports, culture and sustainability for many more years,” concluded the president.
 
The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, highlighted the international relevance of the Lanzarote Quemao Class as an attraction in the sports field, and highlighted that, in La Santa, Tinajo, the best surfers and bodyboarders from all over the world will be concentrated on a date that will depend on the conditions of the El Quemao wave.
 
For his part, Héctor Fernández, CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, highlighted “the great relationship between tourism and surfing”, and how this discipline brings notoriety and relevance to a destination that increases in profitability when combined with sports and with the utmost environmental respect towards a fishing and sports enclave.
 
The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, highlighted the privilege of “having one of the most important waves in the world in our municipality and that the Cabildo of Lanzarote has a clear commitment to boosting the economy and commerce in La Santa and Tinajo”.
 
Finally, Héctor Rodríguez, co-organizer of the event, wanted to especially thank the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and the rest of the public and private collaborators who make the development of this event possible, “which is celebrated in memory of a great friend” such as David Infante “El Fula”, who died in the El Quemao wave in January 2009. He also highlighted the pride of hosting this event in what is “the most spectacular volcanic reef wave in the world”.
 
The Lanzarote Quemao Class consolidates its position in this new edition as a benchmark event in Europe and as a tourist, social, economic and cultural attraction for the island of Lanzarote.
 
The Lanzarote Quemao Class is sponsored mainly by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve, Lanzarote a Unique Island, European Sports Destination by Turismo de Lanzarote, Economic Promotion; and the sponsorship of Ayuntamiento de Tinajo, Deportes Tinajo, Servicio Insular de Deportes and Chacón.
