The Arrecife bay hosted on Sunday morning the celebration of the first regatta of the season of the Insular League of 5-Meter Latin Sailboats, a regatta that on this occasion was valid for the San Ginés Trophy and to celebrate the patron saint festivities that are taking place these days in the island's capital. The Graciplus, skippered by Nete Armas, current champion of the insular competition, dominated the regatta from the start and took the first victory of the season.
The light wind marked the development of the inaugural regatta of the Insular League of 5-meter Latin Sailboats, blowing with an intensity of 5 to 7 knots. Conditions that forced the Regatta Committee to postpone the start of the regatta, in search of the best conditions for the sailboats to navigate. Finally, a windward-leeward course was established, with one of the buoys located near the old commercial pier.
At the start, the Furia II of Estanis Bethancourt was penalized with an individual recall and with it, lost almost all chances of fighting for the top positions. All participating boats opted for the use of the mainsail, and strategy was fundamental to read the best wind conditions on the race course. The Graciplus of Nete Armas slightly ahead of the Playa Dorama of Aythamy Quintana at the first mark, and behind them were the Playa Blanca of Orlando Umpiérrez, the Jameos del Agua of Alfredo Morale, and the Fayna of Pedro de León.
The positions remained almost unchanged throughout the entire regatta, with an intense fight between the Graciplus and the Playa Dorada in the first downwind leg, although the Graciplus began to increase the difference to comfortably secure the victory. The Playa Dorada crossed the finish line in second place, and by a few centimeters, the Playa Blanca closed the podium in third place, ahead of the Jameos del Agua. The Graciosera of Andrea Stinga staged a great comeback and finished in fifth position in the regatta.

At the conclusion of the regatta, the facilities of the Insular Federation of Latin Sailboats of Lanzarote, located at the Insular Center for Nautical Sports, in Marina Colón, hosted the awards ceremony for the San Ginés Trophy. The event was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Arrecife, Echedey Eugenio, accompanied by councilors Roberto Herbón, Jacobo Lemes, Rosmen Quevedo and Davinia Déniz, and the president of the Canary Federation of Latin Sailboats, Luis Toledo.
The Insular League of 5-Meter Latin Sailboats of Lanzarote will hold its second day next Sunday, August 30, with the celebration of the second and third regattas of the season.
