This Thursday morning, the presentation of one of the most acclaimed trail races by runners both inside and outside the island was held at the Caleta de Famara dock. The eighth edition of the 'Famara Total' will arrive with a sports day from August 24 to 26, dedicated to mountain racing lovers who will be able to enjoy the 7, 5, 15, 25 and 50 kilometer routes, as well as hiking, the 'Carrera Chinija' and, of course, the always special night race 'Famara Total Vertical By European Sports Destination'.
The presentation ceremony was attended by different representatives from both island institutions and the runners themselves. The Councilor for Sports of the municipality, Alejandro Ramírez, thanked "the presence and the great reception of this new edition" of "a test whose importance goes beyond sports thanks to its magnificent route, making it an important competition in other parts of Europe", while thanking the "joint work that the Teguise City Council has been able to have with the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands and the private companies and collaborators that have been involved in this 'VIII Famara Total'".
"The great relevance of this competition serves as an impetus for quality tourism through sports"
From the Cabildo de Lanzarote, both María Martín, head of European Sports Destination, and the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, endorse the "great relevance of this competition that serves as an impetus for quality tourism through sports".
"We are aware of the prestige that the island has abroad at a sporting level and it is thanks to events such as 'Famara Total' in which runners enjoy the peculiar orography of Teguise in a great competition", said Martín, words that were corroborated by Monzón himself, "for my part, they will always have institutional support for a guaranteed test like this so that it continues to add editions".
For her part, the mayoress of Teguise, Olivida Duque, also emphasized "the special environment" that this event has, arguing that "eight years ago it seemed crazy that a test of these characteristics could be carried out, so I thank the efforts of all those who are now and those who were then for having managed to ensure that, eight years later, we are still here". "From the administration, we can only give more visibility to the great effort that is made from the organization and that of each of the companies that will be working from today and during this weekend for a unique event that calls more runners every year," she adds.
In the same line of "highlighting the peculiarity of the landscape" it was explained, Juan Antonio Carreño, member of the organization, who stated "we are working all year to bring to Teguise and Lanzarote one of the best tests of the summer in the Canary Islands and Europe", which is why "we are very proud of this test that begins with the 'Famara Total Vertical By European Sports Destination'", in addition to thanking "the support of the institutions, as well as the runners, both local and the large number of athletes who come from abroad".
"The best thing about the 'Famara Total' is the atmosphere when you reach the finish line, which, without a doubt, few tests can have"
And the presentation ceremony also included the presence of the runners Cristina Martínez, Sergio Machín and Albi Cedrés, who ratified the level and quality of this test both at a landscape and organizational level, highlighting that "the best thing about the Famara Total is the atmosphere when you reach the finish line, which, without a doubt, few tests can have, with all those people who surround you and with whom you join that festive atmosphere", serving as a culmination after having had the opportunity to enjoy the extraordinary landscape in full competition.
