The past weekend has been wonderful for the youth academy of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen. In a heart-stopping and somewhat controversial final, the small, great Tias warriors won the Spanish runner-up title in the category after falling to Helvetia Ainatasuna in the final (29-30) in a Tías Municipal Pavilion with the stands full.

Unfortunately, the team led by Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Santana and Miguel Ángel Lemes arrived at the big event with two starting players physically affected. Amaia Barrachina was able to overcome a slight ankle sprain to play in the grand final, but Adriana Reyes remained on the bench with a wrist injury.

The match had two distinct halves. The first was taken by the Tias bees (23-14), but the Navarrese reacted in the second half, recovering the lost distance and reaching the crucial final minutes with equality. With the score tied and immersed in the whirlwind and madness of the important final seconds, the referees did not call a foul in the Navarrese attack, which allowed Anaitasuna to close the match with a victory.

Despite everything, a runner-up title for the Tias infants for which we must feel more than pride and guarantees that the youth academy of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen continues to be one of the best in the country. On the other hand, on the neighboring island of Fuerteventura, Miguel Ángel Lemes' youth team won third place in the Canary Islands Championship after defeating Moya Tilover.

In short, an end to the season full of successes for the Tias bees' youth academy, as we cannot forget to add the passage through the state competition of the Tias youth and cadet teams.
