The Lomo Sports Club has been distinguished with the Gold Medal of the Centenary of the Interinsular Football Federation of Las Palmas (FIFLP), the highest institutional distinction created by the entity on the occasion of its one hundred years of history.
The presentation took place this Sunday, September 13, 2026, during the Central Act of the Centenary of the FIFLP, held at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The date coincides with the centenary of the constitution, on September 13, 1926, of the Canary Federation of Football Clubs, the antecedent of the current federative organization.
The commemoration takes place, moreover, in the year in which the institution has incorporated the title of "Royal", granted by the Royal House.
The Gold Medals of the Centenary recognize individuals, clubs, and entities that have contributed to the growth and prestige of provincial football since 1926. The distinctions are distributed in thirteen areas, including grassroots football, women's football, refereeing, coaches, centenary clubs, institutions, sporting careers, and historical research and dissemination.
The CD Lomo has received recognition within the area dedicated to grassroots football and training, along with UD San Nicolás, CD Herbania, and CD El Pino Los Álamos Aguas de Teror.
In this way, the FIFLP highlights the continued work of the club in training and grassroots football, in which the trajectory of CD Lomo allows us to understand the sporting and social dimension of this distinction.
The club's training work began in 1954 in the Charco de San Ginés area. Since then, it has maintained a close link with the El Lomo and Charco de San Ginés neighborhoods, becoming a gateway to federated sports for generations of boys, girls, and young people from Arrecife.
The dimension reached by its youth academy was reflected in a previous federative recognition, granted in 2013. At that time, the club had around 200 federated minors and another 150 participants in municipal schools, in addition to a wide range of teams, showing the historical scope of its training work.
CD Lomo also made an early commitment to women's football. Its team competed in the regional category and provided players for the Canary Islands Federation call-ups. The club has subsequently maintained its presence in women's competitions, contributing to the creation of new opportunities for girls and young women to participate in this sport.
To its sporting task is added an important social and community function. For more than seventy years, the entity has offered its players a space for training, coexistence, and growth, allowing them to advance through different categories and, in some cases, continue their careers at other clubs.
The Gold Medal of the Centenary thus recognizes the continuity of a neighborhood club that has made the training of minors its main contribution to Lanzarote football. The distinction also extends to the boards of directors, technical staff, families, and the generations of male and female players who have sustained the CD Lomo project since 1954.
