The light sailing season in the Canary Islands kicked off this past weekend with the celebration of the First Qualifier of the ILCA 4 Class – Baleària Canarias Trophy, which featured a large group of sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. Unai de Ugarte and Adriana Bravo de Laguna were the overall winners of the event held in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and where Viliams Osipovs also stood out, taking the gold medal in the male U16 category.
The racing team from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife traveled to the island of Gran Canaria to participate in the First Qualifier of the ILCA 4 Class. The club's expedition included Unai de Ugarte, Mateo Roa, Viliams Osipovs, Adriana Bravo de Laguna, and Fayna Tavío. The sailors were accompanied during the competition by coach Hugo Torres.
Throughout the two days of competition, the six races scheduled by the organization were completed, with good wind and wave conditions in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the wind blowing from the northwest at an intensity of 13 to 15 knots. This weekend's event, along with the one to be held from October 2nd to 4th in Tenerife, will serve to form the Canary Islands team for the ILCA 4 class that will participate in the Spanish Cup scheduled from October 30th to November 1st in Mallorca.
Unai de Ugarte was the dominant force in the First Qualifier ILCA 4 – Baleària Canarias Trophy, with the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailor achieving victory in all six races held throughout the weekend, becoming champion and securing first place in the male U18 category.
Viliams Osipovs also showed great consistency and finished the competition in second place overall, a result that proclaimed him the winner of the male U16 category and second place in the U18 category. Mateo Roa also had a great weekend, recovering from the DSQ suffered in the first race, and finished the competition in fourth place, just outside the overall podium.
Adriana Bravo de Laguna was the winner of the women's category of the First Qualifier of the ILCA 4 Class, showing great consistency throughout the six races held in the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and furthermore, conquering the gold medal in the women's under-18 category. And Fayna Tavío qualified in fifth position in the women's under-16 category.
The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors, wish to congratulate the five sailors from the club who participated last weekend in the First Qualifier of the ILCA 4 Class, and especially Unai de Ugarte and Adriana Bravo de Laguna for their victory in the general classification, and Viliams Osipovs for the triumph in the men's under-16 category.
