The Lanzarote Quemao Class closes its first day of competition with a day in which the level has not stopped increasing. Expectations for this 9th edition were higher than ever, and this first day has not disappointed.

One of the protagonists of the afternoon was local surfer Manuel Lezcano, who advanced to the quarterfinals as leader of his heat. “It was a complicated heat, we really had to compete, and we did. It went well and I was able to pass first to the quarterfinals. Knowing the wave always helps, knowing how to choose it well. I had priority, I saw that there were possibilities of getting a good tube and I took advantage of it,” he highlighted.

Alongside him, the Basque Adur Amatriain advances. Competing for the third time in this event, he has taken advantage of his familiarity with the wave to secure his pass. “It was a complicated heat, with few opportunities, but the conditions were very good and I was able to catch some fun waves, so I finish happy.” He also added that, “I come more prepared than other years, the previous ones caught me a bit newer, and now, in my third time here, I know the wave better and I feel I have a better chance of doing better.”

In bodyboard, Pierre Louis Costes secured a spot in the quarterfinals with the best wave of the day. “I am very happy, honestly, and it’s because when I come to compete here, I know it’s not a normal event. When the event starts, when the call is made, it means it’s good, this is a very high-quality wave and we know we will be lucky to be only four people in the water,” explained the French bodyboarder. “It’s an incredible feeling to catch such a good wave in front of all the people,” he adds.

Amaury Lavernhe has also been one of the protagonists of the day. The one from Reunion Island advanced as a top seed commenting that “I am super happy to start with this result, and to be in the Lanzarote Quemao Class again. It is a very beloved event for everyone, for us competitors and for the local people. We really wanted to be here and we are very grateful”.

To close this first day of competition, the first semifinalists in bodyboard have been decided, who will fight for a place in the final. They will be the Basque Alex Uranga, the Gran Canarian Lionel Medina, the Tenerife native David Pérez and Aitor Ojeda, from Fuerteventura.
