The 7th edition of the ‘Billabong Quemao Class’ kicked off this Monday morning with great wave conditions, sun and a public dedicated to the competition.
The action began with the first round of surfing, with Basque surfer Natxo González and Frenchman Marc Lacomare setting the standard, finishing their series with the best scores of the morning. The current champion, Natxo González, showed that he is back to defend the title with a spectacular wave of 9.60 out of 10. He also expressed that this is without a doubt 'a very special event for me, with brutal waves'.
Also noteworthy were the Canary Islanders Luis Díaz and Yael Peña leading in their respective series. 'The first series was difficult, but I'm very happy. The wave conditions are expected to continue improving throughout the day, so I'm looking forward to getting back in the water,' commented Luis Díaz from Gran Canaria. For his part, Frenchman Marc Lacomare made the most of the good conditions and scored a wave of 8.17 points.
Next, it was the turn of the bodyboarders who took over. During the morning, incredible performances were seen, such as those of David Sánchez from Lanzarote, Armides Soliveres from Gran Canaria, and Octavio González and Aitor Ojeda, both from Fuerteventura.
Octavio González and Aitor Ojeda advance leading in their series, achieving the two best waves of their category with an incredible 9 out of 10 and 8.90 respectively.
Prior to the start of the competition, the surfing community, the competitors and the people of La Santa paid tribute to David Infante 'Fula', in whose memory this event is held every year.
'It is an honor to be able to organize this special moment to remember our friend David Infante 'El Fula', and to see the people of La Santa and the competitors participating in this tribute,' said Francisco Saenz, organizer of the event.
With wave conditions continuing to improve, the 7th edition of the ‘Billabong Quemao Class’ continues in La Santa, Tinajo.
