Success in the new edition of the 'Lanzarote International Running Challenge' of Club La Santa

More than 950 running enthusiasts participated in the four races of this event, with 28 different nationalities

Total success in the 2023 edition of the 'Lanzarote International Running Challenge', organized by 'Club La Santa'. The four stages of the race have had the Tinajo City Council as co-organizer, and the Cabildo de Lanzarote and 'Lanzarote European Sports Destination' as collaborating entities. The event, which began on Sunday, November 26, encouraged more than 950 runners from 28 nationalities to participate, who competed in different categories: male, female and team.

As a preview, on Saturday the 25th the 'Night Run' took place, the vibrant night race of 'Club La Santa', which ended with Daniel Betancor (00:12:45) and Sara Rivas (00:14:57) as winners in the four kilometers, while in the seven kilometers the victory went to the Belgian Laurens Verluyten (00:22:10) and the British Sarah Flanagan (00:24:13). Attendees competed in the hotel complex to enjoy a unique event with a relaxed and familiar atmosphere.

In addition, live musical performances, food trucks and the unique facilities of Club La Santa accompanied the sport in a 'Night Run' that has already earned a place in the calendar of autumn events in Lanzarote.

Last Sunday the first of the four stages took place. The 'Vince Regan Memorial Classic Road Run', with 10 kilometers of racing on asphalt, which was won by the Irishman Colm Parnell, who managed to finish in a time of 00:32:22. In the women's category, the winner was his compatriot Catherine Thornton, with a mark of 00:38:23. In the team competition, the triumph was awarded to Milton Buzzards in the men's category and Offaly in the women's category, both climbing to the top of the ladder in this edition.

Last Monday the 'Ridge Run' took place, the second race of the competition, which consisted of 13 kilometers around one of the volcanoes near 'Club La Santa'. The British James Stockings (00:45:51) obtained the victory, while in the women's category the Irish Catherine Thornton (00:55:46) repeated triumph. By teams, Milton Buzzards and Sportsworld were the first in the men's and women's classifications, respectively.

The 'Beach Race', held last Tuesday, was a great challenge for the fastest competitors. With five kilometers of racing on the sand of Puerto del Carmen, James Stockings, with a time of 00:16:57, and Sarah Flanagan, with a mark of 00:19:28, would climb to the top of the podium. Milton Buzzards in the men's category and Offaly in the women's category were also awarded in the team event.

To finish the competition, this Wednesday, November 39, 'La Vuelta de Tinajo' took place, the toughest race with 21 kilometers on asphalt and dirt. In this stage, once again, the British James Stockings and the Irish Catherine Thornton have been proclaimed winners. The winning men's team was Milton Buzzards in the men's category and Crusaders AC in the women's category.
