Nearly 300 runners participated on Saturday afternoon in the second edition of the Trail La Vegueta – Piel de Toro. The sporting event took place in the town of La Vegueta (Tinajo) and in its second edition it manages to consolidate itself in the panorama of sporting events on the island of Lanzarote. Mountain or trail races are in fashion and this is noticeable in the high volume of registrations received in recent weeks. Sara Camacho and Drajer León were the absolute winners of the 10 kilometer category of the II Trail La Vegueta – Pîel de Toro.
La Vegueta celebrates these days the festivity of Nuestra Señora de Regla and sport could not be missing from the program of the festivities. The La Vegueta Festival Commission organized for the second year a mountain race that has had a great acceptance by the Lanzarote runners. In this second edition there were three categories and open to all audiences. The main event was the 10 kilometer race, there was also a 5 kilometer race and the "trekking" category for those who wanted to enjoy the event in a non-competitive way.
In the men's category, the winner of the race was Drajer León, a runner who completed the course in a time of 36 minutes and 24 seconds. The second place on the podium was for Alberto Álvarez (36:58), entering the finish line 34 seconds behind the winner of the race. And the third position was for Jacob Ferrer (37:59). The winner of the II Trail La Vegueta climbed to the second place on the podium last week in the TriACE triathlon held in Arrecife.
In the women's category, Sara Camacho set a strong pace and none of her rivals could face her throughout the 10 kilometers of the course. Sara crossed the finish line as the winner with a total time of 47 minutes and 31 seconds. She was more than four minutes ahead of Gemma Cartwright (51:54), who was second. And the third classified was Puri Gallego (53:45).
César Hervada and Idaira Alfonso, winners of the 5 kilometer category
The 5 kilometer category of the II Trail La Vegueta – Piel de Toro had the participation of 75 runners and who had to complete one lap of the course designed by the organization. In the men's category, the winner was César Hervada, with a time of 17 minutes and 44 seconds. Iván Hernández (17:58) and Carmelo Rodríguez (19:11) completed the podium of the race being second and third, respectively.
The victory in the women's category was for Idaira Alfonso, with a total time of 24 minutes and 9 seconds. The second place on the podium was for Lady Vanesa Betancor (24:49) and third would be Guacimara Hernández (25:47).
The II Trail La Vegueta was organized by the La Vegueta Festival Commission, jointly with the Tinajo City Council and the company Piel de Toro. And it had the support of Mangacamisa, FisioSan, Forever, PaleoFamara and Autoescuela Volcán.
