The Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” did not falter as they went out against Unicaja de Málaga to try to surprise again, as they did two weeks ago in Almería, and achieve victory, which would be the fourth consecutive for the Lanzarote team this season and would give them another boost to achieve salvation.
The first quarter was tremendously even. The differences were minimal on the scoreboard, three for the locals or three for the visitors, but always with the feeling that the quarter could be defined for one team or the other. The games were very similar and the numbers as well, no interior game managed to be superior to the other, neither in defense nor in attack, as well as the outside shots, where there was not much fortune on the part of the two combined teams, adding only one three-pointer scored by the Malaga team.
The 16 to 15 with which the first quarter evaporated was turning in favor of Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” in the second, coming out much better than their rival until achieving a scoring streak of 9 consecutive points, which led to Jesús Lázaro's team to be behind on the scoreboard with a 10-point difference for Jesús García's team. The rebounding work was being dominated by Unicaja, but the scorer, especially from mid-range, was for the Lanzarote team, who with a short squad managed to go to halftime with the score of 28 to 36 in their favor.
Little changed in the third quarter the dynamics of the match. The local team tried to turn the score around, but Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” managed to defend well against the attacks, being as lethal as the Malaga team in theirs. The peninsulars were condemned in the game of Cristina Ugochukwu by personal fouls, reaching four before the end of the quarter, while the Lanzarote team were taking care of their health in that aspect. In the last bars of the quarter, a triple by Jaterra Bonds managed to break the tie, concluding the quarter with the score of 50 to 57.
This advantage was favorable to the Lanzarote team, which, however, due to the lack of bench depth, with only 4 rotations, was going to force them to work very hard, especially due to the local impetus, who did not want the victory and the classification for the final phase to escape them. The Lanzarote team, despite this, had no doubts and went for it, taking the reins of the match and the scoreboard from the beginning. The islanders made the attacks of the Andalusians very uncomfortable and that was seen throughout the quarter, with a difference that changed slightly despite the passage of minutes of play.
Near the equator of the quarter, a triple by Salomé García seemed to give wings to the locals, who were met with the quick response of Carolina Mateo. Although the difference was momentarily reduced, Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” seemed to have the game under control, which motivated the visiting bench to ask for a time-out with 3'51'' left after a basket by Romina Rodríguez, which once again put the score at 9 points for the Lanzarote team (57-66).
Despite the tranquility that Jesús García asked his players for when having possession of the ball, the nerves and doubts returned again, with many inaccuracies in passes that motivated Malaga recoveries, although in many cases they did not end in anything. With one minute left, the score was 59 to 66, which led to thinking about the Lanzarote victory, but this is basketball and we had to wait until the end. Little was played until the end of the match, where a basket by Romina Rodríguez put the final score at 59 to 68.
Victory that is the eighth for Magec Tías “Against Gender Violence” and that serves to move a little further away from the relegation zone. Tomorrow the island team visits Alhaurín de la Torre, on Malaga court, to recover the match postponed in its day. Although it would not be definitive, a victory could practically give salvation to the islanders, who next week will recover the last of the postponed matches and will face the last three league matches.
