Leonel “Pipa” Gancedo replaces Mateo García at the helm of UD Lanzarote

A benchmark of the First Division of Spain and South America will take the reins of the rojillo team's bench.

UD Lanzarote is in the process of preparing its sports project for the 2023/2024 season, and the first step has been to confirm who will be in charge of leading the team from the bench. The rojillo team has closed the incorporation of the Argentine coach Leonel “Pipa” Gancedo, a benchmark of the First Division in Spain and South America, and will be in charge of taking the reins of UD Lanzarote next season in the Third Federation.

Leonel Fernando Gancedo, born on January 23, 1971 in Buenos Aires, is remembered for his time at Osasuna in the First Division (2000-03) and Real Murcia (2003-04). A professional in the world of football who played in teams such as Argentinos Juniors, River Plate, Huracán Tres Arroyos and Deportivo Morón in his country, and also in the ranks of América de Cali in Colombia.  

As a coach, his time at C.A.I. Patagonia Argentina stands out, a team with which he achieved promotion. In addition, he has been sports director of River Plate, achieving great success with one of the most important clubs in South America.

As announced on Monday, Leonel “Pipa” Gancedo will be part of the Sports Council that joins the Board of Directors of UD Lanzarote, which also includes sports agent Fabián Bustos as director of the Council and sports lawyer Pablo Rial. The interaction between the different parties will be fundamental for a greater and better administration of the club.

Leonel “Pipa” Gancedo becomes the next coach of UD Lanzarote for the 2023/2024 season and will be in charge of leading the sports project that the rojillo team is preparing to compete again in group XII of the Third Federation.
