The Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote hosted, on Tuesday morning, the official presentation of the scoring event for the Triathlon World Cup that will be held on March 14 in Costa Teguise.
The presentation was attended by the Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón; the Vice-Minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Sabroso; the competition director of the Spanish Triathlon Federation, Jorge García; and the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque. In addition, the international triathlete and technical manager of the elite team of the Spanish national team, Javier Goméz Noya, was present.
Likewise, a Spanish junior national team combined was also present, who are currently training in Lanzarote, thus preparing for this scoring event of the World Championship.
The Minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón, assured that this event "will provide a major boost to the practice of triathlon on our island." "We will have more than a hundred top-level triathletes on our island, thus placing Lanzarote at the epicenter of the triathlon world," said the minister, who deeply thanked the help and collaboration of areas such as Planning and Project Coordination, headed by Vice President María Jesús Tovar; the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism, directed by Minister Ángel Vázquez; or Turismo Lanzarote, which will be key players in the operation of this event.
For his part, the Deputy Minister of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Sabroso, pointed out that for the regional Executive "it is a source of pride and a responsibility that this event can be held in Lanzarote, a unique place that has always been very important for triathlon, both for residents and tourists." "We were clear from the first moment that we had to join forces between the administrations so that this would go ahead, so the support of the Government of the Canary Islands is the maximum and we are convinced that it will be a success," he added.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, welcomed the Spanish team, who are also staying in the municipality. "We will experience a unique event in Costa Teguise, and it will be an honor for us that the competitors enjoy the peculiar environment and landscape we have in the municipality of Teguise during that weekend," she added.Competition director Jorge García stated that "a project is being born to internationalize Lanzarote with a test from the International Federation." "We chose Lanzarote because of the brotherhood that exists with sport and the territory, being a key piece for the start of triathlon with projects like Ironman, and we are convinced it will be the first event on the international calendar, which guarantees that the starting list will be the most important of all those that will follow," he pointed out.Lanzarote will, in this way, be the nerve center of triathlon at an international level on March 14.
