Dozens of people gathered at La Recova municipal market in Arrecife to support Olympic gymnast Ray Zapata in his participation in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The "conejero", born in the Dominican Republic but raised in Lanzarote, participated this Saturday afternoon in the artistic gymnastics floor final, where he ultimately did not obtain any Olympic medal.

Zapata was coming off winning the silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, held during the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, he has also won gold at the World Championships and bronze at the European Games.

The gymnast had remained away from sports competitions for the past three years due to a calf injury.

The gold medal went to Filipino gymnast Carlos Yuro.
