Arrecife was for the fourth year the stage of the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon 2017, celebrating the eighth edition of the international event, bringing together more than 200 participants and nearly fifteen countries represented. A very hot day for all participants, enjoying the demanding course and obtaining the prize of becoming a finisher of the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon 2017. Kenneth Vandendriessche and Amelia Rose were the absolute winners of the eighth edition of the Ocean Lava.

Early on Saturday morning, the triathletes began to concentrate in the vicinity of El Reducto beach, the area from which the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon 2017 was to start. The fact that only the Olympic modality was disputed did not diminish the participation, with more than 200 triathletes taking the start. All of them had to complete a course of 1.5 kilometers swimming, 46 kilometers by bicycle and 10 kilometers running, all on a Saturday marked by heat and lack of wind.

Beautiful fight that was registered in the first positions of the male category, being several triathletes who began to mark the differences in the swimming segment developed in the beach of El Reducto. The Belgian Kenneth Vandendriessche took the lead of the race and crossed the finish line as winner with a time of 2 hours, 4 minutes and 1 second. Ricardo Hernández (2:06:35) occupied the second place of the podium and David Arteaga (2:09:09) climbed to the third place of the podium.

The female category of the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon 2017 was also disputed, with Amelia Rose Watkinson taking the lead in the bicycle segment and increasing her advantage in the running race. Amelia Rose scored the victory with a time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 37 seconds. The Canary Islander Delioma González (02:26:48) defended with nails and teeth the second place of the general and the third position was for Tessa Kortekaas (02:27:38).

The eighth edition of the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon 2017 was valid for the Canary Islands Triathlon Series, a competition organized by the Canary Islands Triathlon Federation. Raúl Lecuona, leader until now of the Canary Islands Triathlon Series, could not be present on the island of Lanzarote, as the flight that had to move him from Tenerife was canceled. In the female category, Delioma González adds some important points to continue fighting for the leadership.

With the arrival of all the participants to the finish line, the awards ceremony of the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon took place, an event that was attended by Jacobo Lemes, Councilor for Sports of the City of Arrecife, and Echedey Eugenio, Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. The first six classified of the male and female category were awarded, and the winners of the age groups also received their champion medal. As in each edition, the Ocean Lava Arrecife - Lanzarote Triathlon awarded the champions of each year of birth.
