Nobody said that the season of the Lanzarote native José María Reina in the 2014 Rotax Series was going to be easy. After the good sensations of the first race held in Zuera (Zaragoza), the second race held in Recas (Toledo) has been marked by the continuous mechanical problems that the kart has suffered. Up to two engine changes have had to be made by the mechanics throughout the weekend, and finally the expertise of José María Reina has allowed him to rescue some valuable points to conquer the second place and maintain the second position in the DD2 Master category.

Team BRT – Tony Kart arrived on Friday at the Recas circuit (Toledo) with the intention of doing the first tests on the kart for the weekend. On Friday afternoon, in the first free practice session, the kart's engine breaks down and becomes unusable. The mechanics proceed to replace it and the problems continue with the changes. José María Reina had problems shifting gears in the kart.

The problems continued on Saturday. The engine lost power and a new engine change was decided in the middle of the morning. After the work done by the mechanics, José María Reina was only able to complete the last two free practice sessions. The laps on the Recas circuit served to verify that there were no faults with the engine and not being able to perform any tests with the kart's chassis

The official practice sessions were reserved for Sunday morning, with the aim of setting a good time and being able to start as far ahead as possible on the starting grid. Despite all the problems, the BRT Team – Tony Kart team did not set a bad time. A total of fifteen drivers were within three tenths of a second, and José María Reina was not one of the first classified.

The good work done by the Lanzarote driver allowed him to save the race and not get a bad result. José María Reina conquered the second place in the DD2 Master category, which allows him to maintain the second position in the overall standings of the 2014 Rotax Series. Now the difference with the first classified in the category is greater, although the Lanzarote driver is satisfied to have been able to alleviate all the mechanical problems of the weekend.

The next round of the 2014 Rotax Series will be at the Motorland circuit in May. José María Reina has the support of the Team BRT-Tony Kart team, Grouplance, Q5 Motocarnet, Turismo Lanzarote, Arrecife City Council, Televisión Canaria and LanzaroteDeportiva.com.
