The season is progressing for José María Reina and the Lanzarote driver faced the third round of the campaign last weekend. The Motorland circuit, in Aragon, hosted the race counting towards the "Mojo" Cup, a competition parallel to the 2014 Rotax Series. A competition that will give the first classified a place in the World Cup to be held at the end of the season in Valencia. José María Reina won a meritorious third place in the DD2 Master category and that will allow him to face with options the rest of the scoring events for the "Mojo" Cup.
It was not an easy weekend for the members of Team BRT – Tony Kart, having a lot of work on Saturday to find the perfect configuration of the kart driven by José María Reina. The Lanzarote driver could not participate in the free practice on Friday, being on Saturday when he could start working on the circuit.
On Saturday, Team BRT – Tony Kart got down to work and worked very hard in the free practice sessions. In one area of the circuit, a few valuable tenths of a second were lost, due to problems with the kart's setup. Throughout Saturday, they worked hard to find the best possible configuration for that area of the circuit. The Canary Islands driver explained that throughout the weekend we lacked some rhythm and we were always two tenths of a second behind the leading group". In addition, this weekend's event was more demanding given the high number of entries and the presence of international drivers eager to add the points that were at stake in the first round of the "Mojo" Cup season.
On Sunday morning, the timed practice sessions were held, which served to define the starting grid for the first heat. A first race in which José María Reina could not be at the top at all.
To top off the complicated weekend, the last race was held in the rain, which made the conditions on the circuit even tougher. "In the race in the water the engine was not running smoothly at all, in addition to the fact that the setup we had achieved on Saturday was not suitable for racing in the water", explained the Lanzarote driver. And in the face of the weather, Reina comments that "the best thing was to take the whole kart back home, and thanks to that and the abandonment of some of our rivals we were able to get third place".
José María Reina conquered a more than meritorious third place in the DD2 Master category in the race counting towards the "Mojo" Cup. A result that allows him to face the rest of the season with hope. Team BRT – Tony Kart will intensify the training tests for the three events remaining until the end of the season and leave nothing to chance. The team is working to get the necessary financial support to carry out extra training sessions, which would allow them to arrive with guarantees to each of the races remaining in the 2014 Rotax Series.
José María Reina faces the national Rotax 2014 Series thanks to the support of Team BRT-Tony Kart, Grouplance, Q5 Motocarnet, Turismo Lanzarote, Arrecife City Council, Televisión Canaria and LanzaroteDeportiva.com.
