Last weekend, the 30th edition of the Master Summer Open was held in the Sylvia Fontana pool, a competition that brought together nearly 1,000 swimmers from 145 clubs throughout Spain. José Juan Aranda, a swimmer from Aragon but based in Lanzarote, was one of the most successful swimmers, winning four medals and two Spanish records.
José Juan Aranda arrived at the competition with a lot of uncertainty but eager to be fighting for the medals. The swimmer participated in three different disciplines; backstroke, freestyle and relays. He achieved the best marks in backstroke, Aranda managed to stop the clock at 28:85 in the 50 meters, achieving the gold medal and the Spanish record (previous 28:96); in the 100 meters backstroke, the swimmer from Aragon took the gold with a time of 1:02:76, a mark with which he also broke the national record (previous 1:03:77). In the 50 and 100 meters freestyle, José Juan increased his showcase by winning two bronze medals. Together with his team, Club Stadium Casablanca, he participated in the relays but despite being very close to the top finishers, they were finally left off the podium.
José Juan Aranda, with a degree in Physical Activity and Sports, as well as a Senior Swimming and Triathlon Coach, is currently one of the swimming instructors at Sands Beach Active and precisely the good preparation he is carrying out in Lanzarote is an important part of his sporting success. This competition held in Tarragona has helped Aranda to arrive with a point more of confidence to the Master World Championship to be held in Gwangju, from August 12 to 18.
