Jachinso Hernández was looking for a good result before facing the Ultra of Haría Extreme and he certainly found it. Sensational victory in the Marathon Coast to Coast, an event that was held on the island of Fuerteventura and in which the Volcán Lanzarote Trail runner won after maintaining a tough fight with the German Carsten Stegner after a long race in which the prevailing heat and the strong pace made the race a real torture even for the most experienced in the field.
The Marathon event with 42km presented this year as its main novelty its accumulated unevenness that ascended to 1600m with difference with respect to the past edition, and with the participation of top-level names such as the professional runner from Asics Germany, Carsten Stegner, and the current champion of the Transvulcania in marathon, Esteban García.
Jachinso Hernández started the race with enthusiasm and from km 2 he made himself noticed when he changed the pace and took the lead, although with doubts as to whether he was at the right pace since it was his debut in this mountain distance. At the intermediate point at km 28 and at the head of the first position, Jachinso maintained a certain advantage over his closest pursuer, facing the last part in a more comfortable way, but things went wrong when he reached km 36, as he got lost on the course and with it the advantage, having to go back to reach the one who was provisionally in the lead, Carsten Stegner.
After the heavy punishment and when he managed to recover from the effort and at km 41 he went straight for the victory, beating Stegner by about 400m, who cut back again in the final part after Jachinso Hernández's mistake with the course, who despite this managed to cross the finish line first, scoring the fifth victory of the season.
The next event for the Volcán Lanzarote Trail runner will be the Haría Extreme Copa de España de Montaña, this time at home, and with the 56kms of the Ultra as the goal, it will be held on October 11th.
