The Famara stage starred in a great rally day in Lanzarote and the first contact of the S-CER teams with the dirt of the "Island of Volcanoes", on whose timed stages the sixth round of the national championship is decided this Friday and Saturday, after the start ceremony on Thursday afternoon-evening.
In a double session in the morning and afternoon, many drivers such as Yeray Lemes, Gustavo Sosa, Alfonso Viera, Juan Carlos Quintana from the Canary Islands. And visiting protagonists of the S-CER such as Pepe López, Diego Ruiloba, Sergi Pérez, Aleksandr Semenov, the native of Tenerife Giovanni Fariña and many more, who did not stop lapping the track that runs uphill on the slopes of Famara.
Many changes and tire wear, testing different suspension combinations or engine set-ups, as well as enduring heat of 32 degrees in the assistance area next to the Villa de Teguise. And driving faster and faster as the cars were adjusted to the driver's liking, to face the 10 stages of the Isla de los Volcanes-Ciudad de Arrecife Rally, which begins this Thursday at 8 p.m. with the start ceremony in the capital of Lanzarote.
And best of all, there were no significant incidents during the eight hours of testing, where in addition to the idolized top-level vehicles such as the Rally2s, fans also enjoyed other less competitive but still spectacular cars such as the Rally4s of the Desafío Peugeot.
There was also time for some "co-drivers" invited by the organization to make their debut, who had the opportunity to get into the passenger seat of the several-time winner of this event, Yeray Lemes.
With the collaboration of Sport&You Canarias and its team manager Emma Falcón, the right-hand seat of the Citroën C3 was occasionally occupied by the councilors of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón and Jesús Machín. The latter recalled old times and fulfilled his promise to co-drive for his childhood friend.
All of them were assisted by Miguel Angel Domínguez, president of the FCA, present in the assistance area. Likewise Marta Marrero, representing Balearia Canarias -official shipping company of the RTIV26-, who also experienced the excitement of a Rally2 from inside the Citroen with Yeray Lemes, in this case for the second consecutive year.
Important for the public
The organization of CD. Evesport once again recalls the importance of respecting the areas prohibited to the public or for car parking in the stages, in points restricted for the conservation of the natural space or archaeological heritage of the Biosphere Reserve island.
A very important issue and a commitment from organizers and federations, which is useless without the support and respect of the public and fans.
These places are well signposted and with some commissioner present to avoid possible damage and to warn and inform about the need for conservation of the most sensitive areas of the RTIV26 route book, especially in the timed stages.
Agenda of the main activities
- The second part of the S-CER caravan will arrive in Lanzarote on a Balearia-Canarias ship on Wednesday afternoon.
- On Wednesday, the teams will reconnoiter the timed stages.
- On Thursday, the start ceremony in Arrecife at 8 p.m. (avenue next to Playa del Reducto) and one hour before, drivers' autograph signing for fans, on the same ramp.
- On Friday, it's time for Shakedown, Qualifying Stage, Choice of starting order, and the first stage to compete in four stages.
- On Saturday, the second stage with six more timed stages and the trophy presentation ceremony at 6 p.m.
- We remind you that the event headquarters will be set up in the halls of the Arrecife Gran Hotel and the assistance area in the fairgrounds next to the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
- Throughout the week, the official magazine will be distributed in paper format. And the digital FAN GUIDE is already published on our website (spectators section), essential for good tracking of the stages in the safest public areas. It will also be published in the traditional official magazine.
